University visits are an important part of students' career planning. As one of the first mainland schools to offer the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) programme and participate in university admissions, we aim to help students clarify their academic goals and broaden their understanding of Hong Kong universities. On 21 October 2023, under the coordination of the Hong Kong Office of the Affiliated School of JNU for Hong Kong and Macao Students, secondary school students from the Affiliated School of JNU for Hong Kong and Macao Students (Guangzhou) travelled to Hong Kong to participate in information days at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Through first-hand experiences such as campus tours, lectures, consultations and exchanges, they deepened their understanding of prestigious universities in Hong Kong and the requirements for various disciplines.

On the day of the Hong Kong Higher Education Fair, ASJ students first visited the campus and dormitory facilities of the Chinese University of Hong Kong under the guidance of Professor Wang Xiangsheng, Dean of the United College. With Professor Wang's explanations, they gained an understanding of the college culture and unique features of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Professor Wang's clear and concise explanations and detailed answers provided ASJ students with valuable insights.

Professor Wang Xiangsheng obtained a Bachelor of Education (Honours) degree from the University of Liverpool in 1987. He subsequently received government and Commonwealth scholarships to pursue further studies at Loughborough University, where he earned a Master of Science in Sports Science in 1989 and a Doctor of Philosophy in Exercise Physiology in 1996. Upon completing his doctoral degree, he joined the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), where he currently serves as Professor of the Department of Sports and Exercise Science, Deputy Dean of United College, and Director of the Hong Kong Institute of Education at CUHK.
Subsequently, ASJ students also participated in a series of lectures on ‘AI Engineering’ and ‘Applied Social Sciences’ at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, experiencing the teaching methods and distinctive courses of this renowned Hong Kong university. During visits to both universities, faculty members and staff from the university's admissions office provided students with detailed explanations of admission requirements, course specialisations, curriculum content, and academic departments, enabling ASJ students to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

From campus tours to interactions with faculty and students, ASJ students demonstrated respect for the university and a proactive attitude during this study tour to Hong Kong. They actively asked questions, explored on their own initiative, and carefully researched the school's academic programmes and admission requirements. Through this study tour to Hong Kong universities, they gained insight into and anticipation for their future university life.

Student Reflections
Chen:
I really enjoyed this trip to visit universities in Hong Kong, and I learned a lot from it. I was very happy to visit the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. This experience has motivated me to continue studying hard so that I can get into the university of my choice. Because of this trip, I am now very excited about university life.

Li:
This study tour was my first university study tour. I visited the campus and participated in a variety of activities. At the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, I attended a lecture on electronic engineering (AI) and learned about the application and development prospects of electronic engineering. At the Chinese University of Hong Kong, I visited the dormitories, kitchens, study rooms, and other places, and then went to the enrolment booth to learn about the subjects and majors.、
I gained a lot from this tour. Not only did I learn about the majors offered by Hong Kong's top universities, but I also inquired about science majors, which laid the foundation for my future major choices and gave me an understanding of the school's teaching staff and the popularity of its majors. I also visited various parts of the school, as the school environment will also be an important factor in my future school selection. Although this study tour was a bit tiring, it gave me a deeper understanding of my future studies and a clearer goal, so I feel it was very worthwhile.

Zhou:
This trip was a great experience. I learned about the campus environment, course content, and admission requirements of the two universities. The teachers at both schools gave detailed explanations and were very friendly. The entire activity was very enjoyable.

This Hong Kong university visit programme is an organic combination of career education and social practice, enabling ASJ students to gain a deeper understanding of themselves, clarify their academic goals, and ignite their aspirations for university education. This initiative is beneficial for students in establishing their future academic direction and life goals.
